Employment History - 30 years of Research/ Teaching/ Administrative Experience at various levels in different positions.
I had the opportunity to work in the country’s foremost CSIR labs, which gave me an exposure to professional scientific environment. I also had the privilege to interact with some distinguished national and international scientists and Nobel Laureates. The numerous lectures attended, plenary and invited lectures presented at National & International conferences in different countries, and personal discussions, have helped develop my scientific aptitude and skills in both Scientific and Administrative jobs.
BRIEF BIODATA OF DR. MRS KAISER JAMIL
Dr. Mrs. Kaiser Jamil, a renowned Biotechnologist, having worked in 4 renowned Institutions like IICT then CCMB (both are premier CSIR LABS), University of Sydney (Australia) and at University of Paris (France)- was awarded Emeritus Scientist by CSIR New Delhi to continue Research Activities, and she joined the Genetics Department, Mahavir Hospital and Research Center, as HOD. THE PARADOX OF LEAD TOXICITY
DNA DAMAGE STUDIES ON LEAD EXPOSED INDIVIDUALS USING MOLECULAR AND COMPUTATIONAL APPROACHES
flap text of the book
Lead is widely used in hundreds of products but it is non-biodegradable, hence it is simultaneously a versatile product and at the same time a subtle and persistent poison. This is the paradox of lead toxicity. Exposure to lead is a threat to the health and to physical development of young children and adults. The characteristic features of lead toxicity, including anemia, colic, neuropathy, nephropathy, sterility, and coma, were noted both by Hippocrates and Nikander in ancient times. We found that lower concentration of lead could induce significant DNA damage and strand breaks in the chromosomes. Biomarkers of Molecular toxicity studies showed DNA strand breaks, micro nuclei, apoptosis and necrosis. Lead is a genotoxicant and certain factors like, duration of exposure and habitats and other demographic factors of the individuals enhance the toxicity. It was found that hemoglobin levels were comparatively low in volunteers with higher blood lead levels, but there was a definite role of other factors like nutritional status, calcium and Iron intake and genotypes of certain genes of the individuals.
